★★★★

The 2015 SBS Korean drama, starring Park Yoo-Chun as Choi Moo-Gak, Shin Se-Kyung as Oh Cho-Rim, and Nam Goong-Min as Kwon Jae-Hee.

Brief synopsis: Choi Eun-Seol was in an accident four years ago, and when she woke up there were three things to define her existence: 1) she had no memories of her life or identity before the accident, 2) a guardian calling her "Oh Cho-Rim," and 3) she could see smells with her abnormally-colored eye. Choi Moo-Gak, a police officer, lives a life without much purpose or feeling (literally) until he meets Oh Cho-Rim, who has her heart set on becoming a comedian. When the two of them team up, they find themselves solving various crimes and even on the trail of the mysterious Bar Code Murderer!

This drama had a lot of things to like about it. The first I observed was that the fantastic concept was pretty original (of course, this is based off of a web-toon, but in general regards to the story it was very original). Seeing smells? I honestly didn't know how that could be portrayed, but it was surprising how we could learn to see scents and traces through Oh Cho-Rim's eye. They were colorful, with a variety of shapes and sizes. It was also good that it became an important tool for the plot, for the team's investigations and also for Choi Moo-Gak and Oh Cho-Rim's relationship.

In the beginning, the drama was more about Oh Cho-Rim and her role in the serial killer mystery and Choi Moo-Gak was almost only a side character. However, in the second half the drama took a lean toward Choi Moo-Gak, and eventually the story became about the two of them as a couple. The lack of balance for the two characters in the start of the story was a little off-throwing, but I was relieved when they synchronized the character value somewhere in the middle.

The antagonist for this drama was, in my opinion, a perfect antagonist and perfectly creepy. I've recently decided that serial killers frighten me far more than other concepts of monsters, such as ghosts, vampires, werewolves, and the living dead. I got the chills plenty of times watching this antagonist and screamed twice when I was really involved. He was well portrayed. His character needed no further development. He fulfilled his role as the antagonist with unique style and I was not left unimpressed. I didn't suspect him from the beginning either, so I was doubly impressed.

I became very fond of Moo-Gak. I thought he was just strange at first, cynical and unfeeling (😜) too. I somewhere along the line realized that Cho-Rim was an agent for his character development, so that by the final episode he is the hero needed for a protagonist. Moreover, Park Yoo-Chun's performance did not leave the drama wanting. He was awesome!

I gave this drama four stars because although there were some elements I would change, I still really enjoyed watching it and got very involved with the story. It is excellent if you're in the mood for watching a crime/investigation theme, or in the mood for some great acting, alone! Super cute and exciting!
