While You Were Sleeping 당신이 잠든 사이에 Review

The 2017 Korean drama, starring Suzy Bae as Nam Hong-Joo, Lee Jong-Suk as Jeong Jae-Chan, Jung Hae-In as Han Woo-Tak, and Lee Sang-Yeob as Lee Yoo-Beom.



Brief summary: Nam Hong-Joo has a unique ability- she has dreams of future events. Her dreams start to show a young man, one that just moved in across the street from her! Jeong Jae-Chan is fairly new prosecutor, and is very driven to see to it that justice is served in every circumstance, and he's not about to let a questionable woman claiming to have prophetic dreams get in his way. This dynamic duo is about to find more trouble than they want, though.



Oh! A good one! A great one! While You Were Sleeping was incredible. It was suspenseful. It was funny. It was heart-moving!



From the beginning, the drama lets us know who to root for and who to boo. Identifying them is easy, but the secondary characters really end up giving the drama most of its sweetness. Investigator Choi was probably my favorite! (Warning: if he becomes your favorite as well, the final episode is going to hurt a little.)



So, we knew from the beginning that Lee Yoo-Beom was not a good guy, but I think we hoped he wasn't really as malicious as the other villains that Hong-Joo and Jae-Chan encountered. Unlike a lot of them, he seemed to show at least some sense of guilt. I found myself hoping that he wouldn't take the next case that came seeking an acquittal, that he might actually change his mind about his behavior. That made the final episode a little sad as well.



There's a lot of cameo roles, many actors that also held roles alongside Lee Jong-Suk in the 2015 drama Pinocchio. This includes actors such as Shin Jae-Ha, Min Sung-Wook, Nam Da-Reum, and Yoon Kyun-Sang. Additional cameos include Lee Sung-Kyung and Kim So-Hyun.

Although Lee Jong-Suk is eye candy all on his own, the real heartthrob for me was the police officer Han Woo-Tak played by Jung Hae-In. It kind of hurt to watch him as the second-leading male. He totally deserved so much more.



But the drama was SO GOOD! Deserves all 5 stars!
