The 2017 Korean drama, starring Lee Joon-Gi as Kim Hyun-Joon, Son Hyun-Joo as Kang Ki-Hyung, Moon Chae-Won as Ha Sun-Woo, Yoo Sung as Hwang Na-Na, Lee Sun-Bin as Yoo Min-Young, and Go Yoon as Lee Han. Based on the popular American TV drama “Criminal Minds.”

Brief summary: The NCI thinks they might have come to a standstill on a case until they meet Kim Hyun-Joon, a local police detective ready to go the extra mile. When the trees of a previous serial killer reappear, Hyun-Joon’s help proves invaluable as the team chases the murderer. When his wife becomes a casualty, Team Leader Kang declares war on the bloodthirsty Kim Yong-Chul, but it’s going to take the cooperation of the whole team and conquering the cases in between to track down this psychopath.

This drama is an interesting adaption of the American “Criminal Minds,” one that kept my attention all the way through! For Korean dramas, it would classify in the crime and suspense genre, and it’s really all you get through all 20 episodes.

Well, and Lee Joon-Gi, of course, but I digress!

What I loved most about this show are all the cases that the NCI team faces. The sheer variety! There’s everything from knife murder to sexual crime, even biochemical terror! I was impressed, to say the least. And then all those cases came to full circle in the end, leading right up to the climax of the final episode!

“Criminal Minds” could have used more of a plot other than Kang Ki-Hyung’s chase for Kim Yong-Chul. While all the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, I would have liked to see more personal growth in each of the characters. They were pretty stagnate throughout.

The ending was a bit abrupt. It didn’t show any of the healing that would come from destroying the bad guy, or any new project to give the show some feeling of immortality. Gun short, Team Leader Kang emerging from the fog, some tired looks at the window, and bam! Done! I was mildly disappointed.

The OST could have been cooler, too. I made several suggestions in my head that never came to fruition, like EXO’s “Monster” or “Lotto.”

There’s no romance line. At all. And if there was, it probably wouldn’t turn out well. No Kissy-kisses. I didn’t mind this, considering the genre, but it’s something I noticed all the same.

Everything considered, this drama was a cool adaption of the American drama and didn’t disappoint the crime and suspense genre! I would have rewritten the ending but enjoyed watching the show. 4/5 stars!
