The 2009 Korean drama, starring Park Shin-Hye as Go Mi-Nam/Min-Yeo, Jang Geun-Suk as Hwang Tae-Kyung, Jung Yong-Hwa as Kang Shin-Woo, and Lee Hong-Ki as Jeremy.
Brief synopsis: Due to some complications, Go Min-Yeo must leave the convent she has known all her life to substitute for her twin brother in a popular boy band, A.N.JELL. At first, Min-Yeo is assured that she only needs to dress like her brother and take his place for a day, but that one day quickly turns into months. Go Min-Yeo must keep up the rouse as Go Mi-Nam among the diverse members of A.N.JELL, including the formidable leader Hwang Tae-Kyung. But can the sheltered young lady keep it up and hide the truth? What will happen if she’s found out before her brother is able to replace her?
This drama is certainly one of the concrete pillars of the Hallyu wave, especially of all dramas produced from 2008-2011. It proved to be hallmark experience for the actors and sported one of catchiest OSTs since “Full House”!
It also happens to be a personal favorite. The first time I ever saw this drama, I was fairly inexperienced to the ways of the kdrama world. I didn’t know what a trope was or wasn’t, neither was I really familiar with “second-leading male syndrome” or the cliche romance types. I picked this drama with my sister under a randomized selection process and neither of us knew what to expect from “You’re Beautiful.”
And we were impressed! We laughed, our hearts felt feelings, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely! For that reason, this drama is a personal favorite.
The style is a bit older; think 2004 American fashion trends and music cameos by Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.
This one made me fall in love! 5/5 stars!
