The 2018 Chinese film, starring Mark Chao as Wu Fu-Chun and Yang Zi-Shan as Jing Ru-Yi.
Brief synopsis: Wu Fu-Chun thinks he’s going to make it big from marketing weddings and penguins in Antarctica, but when his plane crashes he finds himself stuck in the icy wasteland with Jing Ru-Yi, another survivor. The two of them must figure out how to survive in these harsh conditions or accept the death that waits for them.
This movie is fantastic! The concept is great and the production is wonderful! It’s easy to love this one, especially with Mark Chao’s enthusiasm!
Penguins. Penguins are the symbol of hope and survival for this movie. Chinese CGI has also gotten A LOT better than it used to be! The penguin scenes were all heartwarming. It’s kind of funny that Fu-Chun came to Antarctica to make profit off the penguins, but finds himself saved by penguins twice.
It could have just been my translation provider, but the English translations for this movie exceeded my expectations! True, I could tell when they weren’t 100% accurately aligned with what the characters were saying, but the embellished English translations really amplified my experience with this movie.
That ending, though! (Can I get another tissue, please?) I did hope for a better one, a happier one, but how often does a happy ending really happen in survivor stories? No, it’s not likely when you think about it. But ouch, my heart!
Although I’ve hinted at the ending, this movie is still brilliant! 5/5 stars!
