Brief summary: When his younger half brother gets into an athletic accident and loses his sight, Ko Doo-Shik uses the situation to get out of prison under the suggestion that he’ll be caring for his brother who has no one. But Doo-Kyung doesn’t want him to help. How can Doo-Shik use their relationship to his advantage if there’s no relationship there?

I was looking for a comedy and got one out of this movie, but there’s another deep, heart-breaking side to the plot that I wasn’t expecting. Although the ending certainly hurt a bit, it doesn’t change the fact that this is one impressive production!

Doo-Kyung’s behavior made a lot of sense. In fact, I was surprised he wasn’t having other psychological effects such as anger displacement or psychogenic pain. Doo-Kyung’s independence is scarred with the loss of his sight- of course he wasn’t handling that well.

Inappropriate language is a bit frequent, some might say excessive, but the translation of it depends entirely on your subtitle provider. DramaFever asterisked most of them out for me.

Doo-Shik’s advice for Doo-Kyung about girls was... 😂😂. I would have been trying to work with Doo-Kyung on his self-confidence, but I guess everything worked out eventually. When Doo-Kyung questioned his own skill, I wanted to shout at him “You lost your sight! Not your attractiveness!”

The wonderful part about this movie is the character transformation that Ko Doo-Shik undergoes while he take care of Doo-Kyung. It becomes necessary for him to do so as it becomes clear that Doo-Kyung could sink even lower and lower. It starts with just making sure that he’s fed, then Doo-Shik starts helping him out of his own volition instead of necessity. Things like showing how to be social, how to run again, and eventually blind-proofing the entire house. The brothers’ relationship become better too. In my opinion, service often does this for people. Going out of your own way to do something for someone else, whether they acknowledge it or not, can endear them to you and you to them (even if it’s only just a little). Maybe if one of our relationships is struggling, perhaps a small act of service is worth a try.

In conclusion, this movie is both funny and heart-breaking. I know a lot of people out there won’t watch movies without crisp, perfect, rainbows and butterflies endings, but this one is definitely worth it! 5/5 stars!
