The 2014 Korean film starring Son Ye-Jin as Yeo-Wol and Kim Nam-Gil as Jang Sa-Jung/Crazy Tiger.
Brief synopsis: Several years ago Jang Sa-Jung deserted the army and became the leader of a misfit group of bandits, but now across the sea Yeo-Woo is just rising to power after usurping the previous captain. A royal seal from Ming had been sent to the new country Joseon, only to be swallowed by a whale during a shipwreck! Now soldiers, bandits, and pirates alike are swarming to find this whale that could let them retire for life, but it’s going to be one heck of a fight to get there first.
I really liked this one! It has a unique concept and entertaining characters, humor and action to keep you interested the whole way through.
I was particularly impressed bu the cast. There were quite a few faces I recognized from characters I loved on the small screen and I loved them even more in The Pirates! We saw a cameo from Park Hae-Soo in the beginning, and throughout the film the two main leads didn’t fail us either!
But my favorite line comes from one of Crazy Tiger’s bandits: “Let’s live to laugh about this.” It’s said quickly and in humor as he’s trying to plan their escapade, but there’s deeper meaning to that line. He means for then to get back safely and live long enough for them to reminisce about it all. I should think there’s some application for how we view time, our past, present, and future— “Let’s live to laugh about this.”
This movie was fun and entertaining, and well organized at that! 5/5 stars!
