Brief synopsis: Tae Gong-Sil lives with a terrifying secret- she can see the spirits of the dead. She has lived tormented by this sixth sense ever since her accident, but one stormy night she finds something definitely out of the ordinary, a man whose touch can get rid of the ghosts she sees. There's just one little problem- while she's desperate to touch him for her survival, he apparently doesn't feel the same way!

Five stars!! This drama has a lot of talent fueling it! In one corner of the figurative ring, we have Gong Hyo-Jin, brimming with skill. In another corner, we have So Ji-Sub, oozing with charm. In a third corner, we have the Hong sisters, well-known for writing great dramas like "Hong Gil-Dong" and "You're Beautiful." And the whole thing turned out wonderfully! I really enjoyed watching this one!

The style is very much like the American TV series "Ghost Whisperer" (2005-2010). Of course, there are plenty of differences to distinguish the two dramas, but if you're familiar with this American drama, it can help adjust your expectations for much of "Master's Sun."

In the beginning, it's a little easy to mistake Tae Gong-Sil's character. She behaves very naively, almost incompetent, paired with the occasional abrupt change in focus. I made this very mistake my first time seeing it. I'll put out this assurance for the first time viewer: if you think about it from Tae Gong-Sil's perspective, you'd see that she's probably just trying to handle her abnormal ability as smoothly as possible. Her character is supposed to be such that she once had it all (skills, brains, talent, social life, etc...) and then lost it all. With this in mind, we are more likely to understand why her character behaves the way she does, although we may find it a little irksome. Throughout the drama, however, Tae Gong-Sil seems to develop and climb the ladder of sophistication. What I mean by this is: if you don't like her in the beginning, don't worry because she gets better by the end.

However, it's not her character development that provides most of the entertainment in "Master's Sun." It's definitely Joo Joong-Won's! When we first meet Joo Joong-Won, he's a cold-hearted capitalist with ulterior motives in every word he says. By the end, he's a man who's gone through a lot for one girl. One of the fascinating things about Joo Joong-Won is that he is portrayed as the guy who has anything he could want, but he has a serious weakness- he can't read. Giving characters weaknesses is essential if you want to make them realistic or more human, but this one was a bit creative, and it worked!

Kang Woo never struck me as real competition as the second leading male. He just wasn't aggressive enough to completely win our hearts like Joong-Won did. He did, however, add an interesting element as someone with a fear of ghosts. 😊

I became very curious about the background of the coffee ghost, called "Joon-Suk." Throughout the drama, he is a ghost that frequently hangs out with Gong-Sil and convinces her to buy him coffee. He can't even drink it, but does it anyways! I won't give away any spoilers about the situation of that ghost, but I wish that there was more into his character background that we could have learned, or that he had more of a significant role. It seems that his role was to be the completely objective party in the drama, just watching Tae Gong-Sil and Joo Joong-Won... But I still want more info on him!

I felt like there was a lot of value in introducing the children's story about the wolf and the lamb. I wanted a little bit more about it, but we do eventually learn how it ends. The thing that I do wonder upon reflection, though, is who exactly represents the wolf and who exactly represents the lamb?

The whole drama was wonderful, a creative mash-up between the horror and romantic-comedy genres. I loved watching it!
