The 2017 Korean KBS2 drama, starring Yoon Shi-Yoon as Yoo Hyun-Jae/Da Bong, Lee Se-Young as Choi Woo-Seung, Kim Min-Jae as Lee Ji-Hoon, and Cha Tae-Hyun as Lee Kwang-Jae.
Brief synopsis: Yoo Hyun-Jae is a selfish popstar in 1993, but his world is thrown into chaos when he accidentally time travels into 2017! He intrudes upon 3 young adults struggling to make their dreams happen and decides to throw his lots in with theirs until he can figure out why and how he time traveled and what he needs to do in order to make things right. But some things seem a little strange, like what the people in 2017 say when they talk about him, or the numbers 22198 on his pager, and the similarities he seems to share with Ji-Hoon.
This one made me laugh and smile a lot. Loved it!
In the beginning, it’s a little difficult to tell just who is the main character. We are almost lead to believe that it’s supposed to be Ji-Hoon before Yoon Shi-Yoon’s character is introduced because that’s where the emphasis is- detailing Ji-Hoon’s life so we get a good look at the 2017 situation. However, Hyun-Jae’s character undergoes the most development with the more experiences he endures and the more problem-solving he has to do. It’s kind of his method to turn him into the main character that we’re watching.
The second character that undergoes the most development is actually Kwang-Jae. Kwang-Jae is kind, careful, and shy in the beginning. He can’t bring himself to tell Bo-Hee that he likes her after all that time. Neither is he comfortable with making requests of others or defending those he favors. After being reminded of Hyun-Jae’s outgoing personality, however, he starts to make strides towards building his own character, such as standing up for Ji-Hoon after his auditions at Star Punch, or showing his feelings toward Bo-Hee. It made me so happy to watch things work out for Kwang-Jae, because nice good guys like him deserve it!
The cameos also made me laugh out loud. Lee Kwang-Soo and Jang Hyuk really know how to do it!
Drill was also such a character!
Watching Hyun-Jae and Woo-Seung as a couple was also a blast. I was pretty worried from the beginning that they weren’t going to work out because Ji-Hoon’s influence was so strong, but it eventually happened and I was so happy when it did!
There aren’t isn’t an overall moral issue to this one, but it does beg the question: if you could change the present by changing the past, would you? Or, should we be trying to change the present right now, in order to change our future? It’s something that Hyun-Jae questions as he is trying to figure out how to handle his unexpected time travel situation. We realize the gravity of it when Hyun-Jae comes face to face with his 1994 self and offers to take him along to 2017, where he could be cured, but the 1994 Hyun-Jae declines his offer, saying that it’s not where he belongs, but he can do things in the present to prepare things as Hyun-Jae saw in 2017.
I loved “The Best Hit.” Everything about it was a work of art! 5/5! Highly recommend it!!
