Brief summary: In October 1983, government officials tried to cover up a 21-man Clean Sweep mission to North Korea by killing all 21 men involved, but Lee Jin-Pyo survived and vowed to get his revenge on the 5 men that plotted it. He took his friend’s son as an infant to raise him to help in his vengeful mission in Thailand. When Yoon-Sung is fully grown and educated, he and Jin-Pyo head for Korea to find the government officials that were involved. But they quickly find variables to their plan- they only have one of the 5 officials identified, and Yoon-Sung has been asked to look after someone in Korea, a young woman named Kim Na-Na. Can Lee Yoon-Sung take out the corruption in the government as the “City Hunter”, or will he give it all up for a girl?

“City Hunter” is definitely special. It’s action-packed, the kind of drama that leaves you on the edge of your seat, and one that every Lee Min-Ho fan should see! It’s a personal favorite.

My favorite thing about “City Hunter” is that it’s really organized. There’s a lot of clean cause and effect and the plot is organized into six parts- the story setup and the taking down of each of the five officials.

There’s not a whole lot of k-drama cliches, either. There’s no second-leading male influence that will end up forever alone, no piggy-back rides, no flowers or petals flying around the main couple, and no rain-induced colds (I appreciate the omission of that one the most). When the characters do become sick, there’s a more credible source of that illness than just rain exposure!

I like that the main female in this drama is very strong and active. Park Min-Young is very talented, although I liked her in “Healer” best. Kim Na-Na’s character in “City Hunter” is no joke, though. She’s no wimp. I appreciate that a lot because in a lot of famous action dramas starring popular male leads, the female leads are diminished to give the male lead more emphasis. This is such the case in “Gunman in Joseon” and “The K2.” Kim Na-Na’s strength and bravery definitely improves her character and multiples just how much we love her!
