Brief synopsis: In high school, she was Daegu’s Venus— the beauty and apple of everyone’s eye. But  after fifteen years, Kang Joo-Eun has let her grasp on life slip until all she has are morals and a dead-end job. And oh yeah— she’s gained an awful lot of weight. Pygmalion and weight loss. That’s the simplest way to describe this drama. And it was cute! This rom-com definitely gets you thinking, especially about the value of a healthy body and healthy relationships.

There was a lot of talent going into this drama. So Ji-Sub is always a good casting choice for Young-Ho’s type of character. He’s got the stoic act down to a science. I was pleased with all the acting talents, the production, and the directing. Top notch, through all 16 episodes!

The only thing that irked me a little was the attitude and pace of the story. I was mildly confused about the end goal that was driving the story forward. Was it the romantic relationship? No, the couple was obviously committed and sweet on each other early on. How about Kang Joo-Eun’s personal development? She was already naturally confident and lost the weight by episode 11. It must be the company politics, then. Ah, yes, that’s it. Company politics is such a common k-drama theme that we can rarely if ever escape it, but I was hoping it was a cliche I wouldn’t have to face in this drama. Because it was so obvious I was a little disappointed, but not enough to keep me from watching it to the end.

But this drama had enough going for it all on its own. Great ideas + great talent = great drama! 4/5 stars!
