⭐️⭐️⭐️
The 2015 Korean film, starring Lee Byung-Hun as Deok-Gi/Yoo-Baek, Jeon Do-Yeon as Seol-Rang/Wal-So, and Kim Go-Eun as Hong-Yi/Seol-Hee. Directed and written by Park Heung-Sik.
Brief synopsis: Hong-Yi has trained since infancy to avenge the death of her parents, but when she finds out who her real parents are she faces an inner struggle between completing her life-long mission and finding another way to restore peace between them.
There’s not much to this movie. The photography, acting, and action sequences are spectacular, but the story is a bit lacking. We never really come to care about the characters because there’s little time to. The plot is mostly driven by bloodlust.
Probably my favorite part of this movie was Lee Jun-Ho’s supporting role as Yull. He’s excellent! Looks great in a historical part!
The ending could’ve used a bit more time, too. We didn’t get to see any of the aftermath from that final scene but I kind of wish we could have.
Altogether, I guess I was just hoping for more from this one, although it was certainly unique! 3/5 stars.
