Brief synopsis: When they were children, Yi Yul and Yoon Yi-Seo started a relationship but they were broken apart in the midst of a coup against the king, Yi Yul becomes crown prince of Joseon. Yi-Seo is separated from her family and is adopted by a kind man in a little village. Even if it looks like the two of them will never cross paths again, fate has a different idea. After both of them have grown up, Yi Yul, bitter about being forced together with the crown princess, decrees that every single bachelor and bachelorette in the country get married as well. On his way to a rain ritual, Yi Yul is attacked by assassins and gets away only to sustain a nasty head injury. When he wakes up, he’s thrown into a whole new world with different people, different practices, and especially the feisty Yeon Hong-Shim. Just one problem— he can’t remember who he is!

Wow! It’s been a while since I’ve been so impressed by a new drama! This one is going on my list of favorites!

Aside from it being perfect for every hopeless romantic out there, this drama really made the leading actor and actress shine. D.O. has taken on a variety of roles before, so we already knew he was talented, but he was fantastic! Nam Ji-Hyun was also impressive (am I the only one that liked her better in this drama than in Suspicious Partner/Love in Trouble?).

This drama came with swoon-worthy characters and swoon-worthy lines. In episode 11, Hong-Shim says “Youg might have been high-born and of noble birth. Your family might be looking desperately for you. Would you not regret leaving with me?”
Won-Deuk replies “I believe I might regret leaving you more than that.”
(And then he does!)

Although the plot is about two characters who are obviously meant for each other and its all fireworks and butterflies when they’re happy together, this drama is aware that there are plenty of us who maybe can’t relate. Perhaps we’ve never experienced that kind of happiness with someone close to us or maybe we haven’t found the right life partner yet. Maybe we found them, but lost them. But the character Jung Jae-Yoon gives us a helpful reminder: “Love is not about winning or receiving. It is about giving” (ep. 16). A life full of love isn’t made just by someone sending love our way. we can make it by distributing the stuff!

I appreciated the cameo from Do Ji-Han! (He’s still my favorite Hwarang 😙). Altogether, this drama was definitely one what I’d recommend and rewatch. 5/5 stars!
